Santa Fe Couple Completes all 60 hikes in Hiking Book

On June 26, 2011, Dag and Lajla Ryen completed their final remaining hike in the Northern New Mexico Group's hiking book, Day Hikes in the Santa Fe Area. Over the past four years, Dag and Lajla have hiked all 60 hikes in the book. Their final adventure was Jicarita Peak. This hike is normally a challenging hike at 12 miles, 2500' of gain, with the summit at 12,835'.

On June 26, special circumstances matched the special commitment by this couple. Sustained winds of 40 MPH and gusts to 70 MPH were experienced for the last 2 hours at the top of the hike. It was so windy that several of the hikers joined hands over the last 300' of gain to add stability. In the group photo, you can see hair and clothing blowing around and everyone seems to be hanging on to some else!
